Questions and Answers for Dominican Republic Hotel Photography by Thiago da Cunha.

I’ll answer common questions people have of my business keeping in mind that I mostly work with and for hotel marketing directors.

1- What is your price? Price depends on many factors such as:

-where is the property located (DR or other Caribbean country?)

-how many locations I need to photography (how many rooms, bars, restaurants, pools, beaches, meeting rooms, lobbies, etc.)

-how many final photos and video the client needs

-how many days spent on the property

In general for a 4-5 day hotel shoot, prices prices can start at US$ 5,000 and up to $ 10,000 depending on the above factors. If lifestyle photography is needed, prices can go up to US$ 30k to $120k for both photos and video.

2- Do you turn in all photos? No. I turn in only the amount of photos agreed upon (retouched and in high resolution). For a standard all inclusive resort 30 to 60 final photos is the “normal” amount. I shoot a lot more of course so to have those final optimal photos. Client can buy extra photos if needed. Because many hotel brands like Marriott, Hyatt and Hilton have photography guidelines, the edits and retouches made to the photos are very precise.

3- Do you turn in the raw photos and raw video clips? Not usually. I believe the client is paying for me to do a job and part of it is to edit everything professionally. For an extra price, the client can have the raws for both video and stills.

4- How long till you turn in the finished edits? No more than 20 working days after the shoot. This also depends on the amount of final images the client paid for.

5- Do you work only in the DR or can you travel to anther country? I shoot mostly in the Dominican Republic but have shot in The Bahamas, Mexico, Germany and Italy.

6- How long do you keep the photos and videos? Everything is saved into 2 external hard drives. I’ll keep the photos/videos as long as the hard drives work but I am not responsable if client needs something months after the final photos or videos where delivered and these drives do not work.

7- How many hotels have you shot? Well over 100

8- How is the process from start to finish? Hotel reserves the days with a retainer or upfront payment. I shoot for 4 to 5 days. After approximately 20 working days I turn in the proofs. Client selects the images needed. Second or final payment is made. Then those images are retouched and turned in from 4 to 7 days after.

9- How many languages do you speak? English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.

10 – Are you approved by any hospitality brand or group?

Yes. I am an approved photographer and vendor for Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton.
